The Inspiration Behind Our Name:
Millicent Briscoe
One educator.
Thousands of lives transformed.
Millicent Briscoe, née Forrest, was the eighth of nine children. She always believed in the power of education and, shortly after graduating from high school, she began her exceptional journey as an educator. Her guiding principle was simple but powerful: every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
That belief guided her extraordinarily impactful career as an educator for 40+ years.
As a revered educator, she taught thousands of children, helping each one build lasting confidence and reach their highest potential. Many of those students would later become leaders in business, medicine, education, and countless other fields. When they reflect on significant influences in their lives, many of them speak to Millicent Briscoe’s singular, unparalleled impact.
To her, teaching was not just a career —
it was a calling.
Even after retiring from the classroom, Millicent Briscoe’s dedication to education never waned. She continued working to expand opportunities for students by supporting and contributing to the establishment of schools, helping ensure that future generations would have access to the same transformative power of education she had devoted her life to providing.
The Millicent Briscoe Foundation was created to honor that legacy.
It reflects the values she lived by every day: that education is one of the most powerful forces for opportunity, that one teacher can influence generations, and that the impact of a life devoted to learning has infinite impact.
Her story is not only the history behind the foundation’s name — it is the inspiration for its purpose and the legacy it carries forward.
